This was actually a fun project to work on. Now and then, I donate my time and services to organizations that make a difference and the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center is definitely one of these organizations.
They reached out to me needing help with their 30th Annual Oak Street Fair poster. They needed something fun and bright — geared for children and families.
I knew I wanted to depict an outdoor scene of some sort and that I wanted colors. I enjoyed playing with the type and figuring out ways to lay out the text because there was a lot of it especially with the accompanying Chinese characters. So, I broke it up into sections like the grass section and utilizing graphics like the watermelons — the watermelon eating contest is a highlight of the event.
I worked through a few iterations getting feedback from the client and keeping in mind that these would be printed in-house so no-no to colored backgrounds, which was important to know.
I’m pretty happy with the way it came out in the end.
